College students are always trying to make their
campus housing feel more like home, or the home that they
want. This offers a great opportunity for someone with
home decor skill and creativity. Just think of a regular
house, and then think of a regular college dorm. What is
missing? At first, to keep overhead at a minimum, you just
concentrate on providing one item and then move on. An
example could be providing small speakers for surround
sound entertainment or providing small indoor trampolines.
Concentrating on one aspect gives you a better chance a
grabbing market share in a specific area. You just have to
see which product would be better to supply and how many
people would be interested.
This business could also branch out to or support a
dorm décor service. This would resemble the traditional
services of interior design, but take it the level of college
dorm rooms.
Dorm rooms are different from regular houses due to
design constraints caused by lack of room, housing
associations, and roommates. However, there is a greater
potential for creative work due to the artistic minds of youth.
Some students may like a room dedicated to their favorite
sport or some may like a room designed on the principles of
feng shui. Students will be charged for cost of amenities
and labor. Contrastingly, you could market the service to
the school itself, enabling them to use your expertise as a
perk of campus housing.
